Hear Cindy Sherman’s first audio interview in ten years on new BBC doc
The BBC has attained a rare audio interview with Cindy Sherman for an upcoming documentary that explores the 40-year career of the iconic American photographer. Arena: Cindy Sherman #Untitled (1×60’) also features commentary from artists, curators and people closest to her throughout her life and career (including Kim Cattrall), charting the influence of Sherman as “one of the greatest living contemporary artists”.
Sherman is widely known for her cinematic self-portraiture, appearing in almost every photograph she takes in the form of an array of different characters, yet she is famously media-shy. Sherman is interviewed by the film’s director Clare Beavan for the hour-long documentary, which also includes footage from archival interviews and a visit to the National Portrait Gallery, where her first UK retrospective is currently on show until 15 September.
Arena: Cindy Sherman #Untitled (1×60’) will air on BBC Four next Sunday 28 July at 9:05 pm, after which it will be available to stream on iPlayer for 30 days.
