In the spirit of the giving season, Airtel Networks Zambia Plc has donated assorted gifts to 10 Orphanages across the 10 Provinces with staff dedicating an hour in each zone to play and interact with vulnerable children.
Speaking during the flag off of events at Providence Home of children with disabilities in Lusaka West area, Airtel Zambia’s Human Resource Director, Ms Bwembya Barbara Chikonde, said it was everyone’s responsibility in the Country and indeed the world at large to look after the vulnerable groups in society.
She said Airtel was keen to see the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achieved in Zambia, and that was the reason why members of staff across the ten provinces had dedicated a day in each zone to spend time with children in what was dubbed “Gift a Child a Smile Day.”
“We are pro – forging ahead without leaving anyone behind and Airtel prides itself in being involved in making a difference in the areas we operate. While we continue to do many things through Education, Health, Youth Entrepreneurship and Environment, for this giving season, we have opted to buy all manner of gifts to make a child smile,” Ms Chikonde said.
Adding: “From our research, there are many children across the country, who have never received a gift. And these gifts can be anything ranging from a reading book to a teddy bear. Just today at Providence Home, it was so heartwarming to play with the children, sing songs together and just spend some time with them has been such a blessing.”
For the Lusaka Zone, Staff visited Providence Home as well as Kabwata Orphanage, while the Kabwe employees visited Promise Orphanage and Kasama visited Chikuku Orphanage. Other ‘homes’ visited include Chipata’s Cheshire Homes, Livingstone’s Lubasi Homes and Mansa’s SDA Orphanage.
