In this tutorial, we show you how to control your iPhone’s ringtone and alert volume using the Volume buttons located on the side of your device.

If you’re annoyed by the fact that your iPhone’s ringtone volume does not change with the volume buttons, and want to change this behaviour, then simply follow these steps.

Change the ringtone volume with the buttons

1. Open Settings and go to Sounds & Haptics.
2. Here, under Ringtone and Alerts, find the Change with Buttons toggle.
3. Turn this toggle on and exit the Settings app.

Now press the volume up button to increase the ringtone and alerts volume, or press the volume down button to decrease the volume.

That’s it. From now on, whenever you press the volume up or down buttons, your iPhone’s ringtone, alerts and media volume will change.
