Using this feature is super easy. In this tutorial, we will show you how can use your iPad as a Mac’s extended or mirrored display in just a few simple steps. You can do this both wirelessly and with a wired connection.
Before you begin:
- Make sure your iPad is running iPadOS 13 or later.
- Mac is running macOS Catalina or later.
- Both devices are logged into the same Apple ID.
Use iPad as Mac display
- On your Mac, open System Preferences and turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- Also, in System Settings, go to General -> AirDrop & Handoff and turn on the toggle for ‘Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices’.
- On your iPad, go to Settings -> General -> AirPlay & Continuity and turn on Handoff.
- Next, on your Mac, click on the Control Center from the top-right corner and click on ‘Screen Mirroring’. Select your iPad’s name from the list.
As soon as you select your iPad, it will become an extended display for your Mac. You can also change the display mode from extended to mirror if you want to see exactly what’s on your Mac’s screen on your iPad.
To do this, go to System Settings on your Mac, click on Displays, and click on your iPad. Then select Mirror instead of Extend Display.
That’s it, this is how you can use the Sidecar feature to extend your Mac’s display and use iPad as the Mac’s secondary display.
