New Trump Cybersecurity Order Reverses Biden, Obama Priorities

A June 6 cybersecurity executive order from the Trump White House takes a couple of swipes at presidential predecessors Barack Obama and Joe Biden. But beyond petty politics, cybersecurity experts widely agree that there is plenty about the new approach that will help the US adapt to a new landscape riddled with threats from artificial intelligence, post-quantum computing, and a janky software supply chain.

The Trump administration has long accused the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) of broad overreach beyond its mandate. In keeping with that outlook, CISA has been systematically stripped of personnel and resources in the months since Trump’s inauguration. This new executive order (EO) goes a step further by putting rules in place to prohibit the government from issuing cyber sanctions against domestic adversaries, which the EO said is due to a concern the power could be used against political enemies.

The latest cybersecurity EO also kills a Biden-era mandate to create a government-issued digital ID program, which the Trump administration said could be abused by undocumented immigrants for fraudulent purposes.Read the Full Article on Dark Reading
